Hi Mrs. Pickle,
My 4 1/2 year old still naps. He wakes up between 6:30 AM and 7:00 AM most mornings. He naps around 1:00 PM for an hour sometimes 90 minutes and goes to sleep between 8:00 and 8:30 PM. He’s very happy to go down for his nap so I haven’t stopped it and his schedule works for us. He is a very active boy and someone suggested that maybe he would calm down if he wasn’t sleeping so much. How can too much sleep be bad? Do you think I should phase out the nap?
Thanks,
Talia

Pat the Bunny is one of those timeless books that every child should have in their collection. The newest addition to the Pat the Bunny series, the How Big is Bunny? Puppet Book, is just as impressive. It features a soft bunny puppet in the center of the book that helps brings the story to life.

There was a storm in our area last night and the kids woke up at 5:00 AM. I lied down with my 3 year old in his room and unbeknownst to me, my husbund allowed my kindergartner to watch TV so he never fell back asleep. By the time we were leaving for school, he was exhausted. The school called me at 1:00 PM and said that he had fallen asleep in art class. His head was on top of his project. I had to go pick him up. When I showed up the nurse said, “He told me that he was watching televison at 5:00 this morning?!” She was looking at me like I was the worst mom ever. As I was picking up some groceries later that day, I ran into a mother from his class. She says to me, “I heard he was up really late watching TV and fell asleep in class!” I tried to explain that that wasn’t what happened. Actually pointing out that it was his father’s fault but I don’t think she believed me. I’ve officially been “labeled” a “badmommy”.

We’re not talking about legendary rocker Jerry Lee Louis’ classic song… We’re talking BELLY- DANCING… And we’re not just talking belly- dancing per se… WE”RE TALKING BELLY- DANCING FOR MOM’S TO BE!As Jennifer Wright was experiencing labor pains in the delivery room, in attendance were her doctor, her husband…and her belly-dance instructor. With her teacher by her side, coaching her, Ms. Wright “performed” the pelvic rotations and hip circles that is the mainstay of this world renowned dance.

Help Mrs. Pickle! I have a 7 1/2 month old baby born 5 weeks premature. He is a great sleeper since we got a routine for him at 4 months (using the crying out method). I am confused however on how long he should be awake before needing a nap. I used to watch the clock and make sure that after 2 1/2 hours (at this age) he would be in his crib. He does nap for long periods of time but now I find that he isn’t showing any tired signs on some days until he’s been up for 3 1/2 hours. He isn’t cranky so is it okay to go by watching him and not the clock? He sleeps about 11-12 hours per night. How much should he be napping at this age and does it change at all till age 1?
