Fly Me To The Moon

Posted by: Michael Sajkowicz, August 30, 2008 in 10:09 am

Fly Me To The MoonWith “Fly Me To The Moon”,  2008 continues to be the summer that cartoons took to space.  Following on the heels of the stellar WALL-E and the mediocre “Space Chimps”, this new 3-D adventure takes us back into orbit however it falls victim to the law of diminishing return as it is a poor offering both in comparison to the two films which beat it to blast-off as well as simply judged on its own merits.

Set in 1969 on the eve of the Apollo 11 mission, which would finally put man on the moon, the film focuses on Nat, IQ and Scooter, three young flies seeking thrills beyond their suburban junkyard existence.

Hillary Clinton, you’re my only hope…

Posted by: Jason Mayo, August 29, 2008 in 10:50 pm

Someone once told me, “Trust me. The qualities in your kids that annoy you the most now, are the very same qualities that you want them to possess as young adults.”  I say, “Easier said than done Missy.” That’s like asking me if I’d like a cold glass of water, while I’m walking in the desert and then telling me that you don’t have any. That’s like parking a new BMW in my driveway and telling me to take it for a spin and then telling me that you don’t have the keys.  In other words, it doesn’t do me much good in the here and now…

Peepers

Posted by: Jessica Leigh Allen, August 29, 2008 in 10:35 pm

As I type this, the cool breeze coming in my window hints at autumn.  Yet, it seems like only yesterday I was being treated to the distinctive mating call of the Pseudacris crucifer, the Spring Peeper.

Here in the Allen household, a different sort of peeper has recently been observed.  He is approximately three feet tall, and only when he spies a street cleaner or passing dump truck does he emit his distinctive call.  Alas!  It is not the tenor of his call that deems him a peeper, so much as his voyeuristic tendencies.

When Will Summer End?

Posted by: Bad Mommy, August 29, 2008 in 9:39 pm

I don’t know about you but summer this year seems to be going on forever.  Camp ended weeks ago and school for our area doesn’t start until September 3rd.  Instead of it getting cooler, it seems to be getting hotter.  I think Labor Day weekend was designed to torture those who don’t have a vacation planned.

Pack a healthly luchAs a mom of two young boys, I’ve got my hands full getting the kids out the door in the mornings. The last thing I have time to think about is what to pack for their school lunch. That’s why I found it necessary to learn about food options and get organized. I was looking for lunches that were easy to prepare and nutritious but also, (and this is the hardest part) appealing to my children. Like most parents I’m not interested in feeding the trash can instead of my kid. Here are my top ten tips for putting together a great lunch box for school:

Use Your Words

Posted by: Jessica Leigh Allen, August 25, 2008 in 3:12 pm

Before I had a child, I swore like a trucker. [No offense to any clean-living, non-swearing truckers out there.]  The F-bomb was a good friend of mine.  I used it as an adjective, a noun, and a verb.  Given the opportunity, I could conjugate it with the best of them.
