It’s Okay To Leave Your Baby: Even Celebrities Do It

Posted by: honestbaby, September 28, 2008 in 10:44 pm

When my first baby was only twelve days old, I left him with a babysitter to go to a film premiere. I felt awful and guilty, but I wasn’t passing up the opportunity to be at the launch of a film I worked on for over two years. Some of my friends balked that I could do such a thing, and to be honest, I didn’t last very long. Stressed and overwhelmed with new motherhood, I spent more time looking for a dress to fit into than actually being at the party. Since then I have marveled at actresses who show up at events without their new babies, looking calm, together and of course fabulous.

Java Junkie

Posted by: Victoria Mason, September 26, 2008 in 9:03 pm

Ever since my doctor told me that my amniotic fluid level was low, I have been really pushing my fluid intake.  Pregnancy tea, water, Gatorade even coconut milk to up my levels.  I also had to give up my one-a-day cup of coffee. Pre-pregnancy I was a three or four cup a day coffee person. My love for the hot or cold drink was just that great. I craved the taste of those fresh ground beans all the time.  Add in an active toddler and a hectic schedule and I typically just barely make it with that one cup of java a day.

Pencil Me In

Posted by: Sex And The Sippy, September 24, 2008 in 6:56 pm

I’ve heard that some people schedule sex. I’ve also heard that some people wash their walls. I’m not sure what freaks me out more.

Maybe it’s because I consider what goes in my momAgenda “obligations,” but writing “get down and dirty with my spouse, Oct 23rd” in my planner just freaks me out. Sex should be a priority in every marriage because it’s an important mode of communication (and fun). I know some women out there show how important it is by planning it and while I’m positive that their better halves appreciate knowing that it’s a FOR SURE, but I can’t just can’t get on that train.

An Inconvenient Truth

Posted by: Jessica Leigh Allen, September 24, 2008 in 12:09 pm

Every once in a while Benjamin asks Michael or I, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”  There are a couple of ways one can look at this inquiry.  #1 He thinks we are a couple of lazy, good-for-naughts or #2 He believes we are still in our prime and able to choose a career that meets our desires.

I like #2.

We’re Definitely NOT Amish

Posted by: Jason Mayo, September 22, 2008 in 12:16 pm

The Amish are best known for their simple living, plain dress and their distain for modern conveniences. I have come to the definitive conclusion that my wife and daughters are not Amish. I also now know for absolute certain that I am not Amish. Not only are we not Amish, we are most certainly the exact opposite of the Amish. I’m also pretty sure that the Amish would hate my family and me if they were to meet us. Although that would be a pretty awesome experiment. Set up a control room somewhere with my kids and a couple of Amish kids and have them hang out for a few hours. Even though the long term effects are not easily foreseen, I’m pretty sure my daughter would have them singing Hannah Montana songs and kicking ass at Wii Tennis before they were able to say Jakob Ammann.

About Vaccinations

Posted by: honestbaby, September 20, 2008 in 8:14 pm

About VaccinationsAgainst: I refuse to vaccinate my kids. There have been proven links to autism and too many toxins in the vaccines for me to endanger my children.

For: The studies aren’t conclusive and it’s not fair for you to put others at risk.  Citizens have a social responsibility to keep everyone safe.  Newborns, pregnant women and the elderly are all vulnerable.

Medela Breastpump Review

MEDELA FEEDING & STORAGE KIT REVIEW

Sure, everyone knows that “breast is best” but what happens when there’s just not enough breast to go around?  That’s what happened to me when I was faced with the challenge of breast feeding my twins, Margo and Benjamin.  I never could get the hang of getting both of them on there at once.  I turned to pumping so that everyone was getting the breast milk, just not directly from me.  Problem solved, right? But then I had a different problem: bottle washing.

Nesting

Posted by: Victoria Mason, September 19, 2008 in 3:45 pm

“What doing Daddy?” My two-year old asked as she watched my husband heave boxes out of the attic crawl space for the second day in a row.  Our sunken garden style tub was filled to the brim with not relaxing yummy smelling bubbles or bath salts but clothes and shoes to be donated to charity.

“We’re nesting TD.  We’re nesting.”

It’s Not You, It’s Me (Okay, It’s You)

Posted by: Jessica Leigh Allen, September 16, 2008 in 1:43 pm

I cannot maintain a friendship.  Okay, that is not entirely true.  There is Jenny (who most adults now call Jen) who I met in first grade.  And there is Kristin, who has shared my ups and downs since the day she shared with me her vast knowledge of the fajita.

I have trouble maintaining superficial friendships.  Hmmm…why lament my inability to maintain bullcrap-laced relationships?  Counterfeit friendships are the foundation of modern motherhood.

Something New

Posted by: Sex And The Sippy, September 12, 2008 in 10:24 am

We moms are forever complaining that we don’t have the energy for sex. Ok, yes we’re tired and overworked, but how can we not have the energy for something that is supposed to make us feel good? If a dude knocked on your door at 11pm and told you you’d just won a $10,000 shopping spree at the boutique of your choice I doubt the words, “Not tonight, so tired” would come out of your mouth. A burst
