Ditching the Devil on Your Shoulder – Perfection

Posted by: Sarah and Alicia, November 30, 2009 in 1:48 pm

Ditching the Devil on Your Shoulder PerfectionDespite our ravenous appetite for organizational products, news articles and TV shows, very few people feel that they’re effectively staying on top of the chaos.  In a recent survey, we learned that over two thirds of women worried that they were not organized enough.  Nearly as many indicated that they were constantly frustrated that they never able to get as organized as the experts say they should be.  And worse, most felt they would never be buttoned up enough, no matter how much help they got.

Overheards Scrabble Edition

Posted by: , November 29, 2009 in 11:02 pm

Scene: The family is sitting around the living room post-Thanksgiving meal.  My husband’s grandmother is playing Scrabble with a few other family members, including my mother-in-law and brother-in-law.

Brother-in-law: Grandma! That is not a word! What is that?

Mother-in-law: No, I don’t think that is a word.  What are you trying to spell?

Grandma: Gat.  G-A-T.  It’s another word for gun.  It is a word.  (Note the imperious tone.)

No one messes with a Scrabble playing Grandma who knows her guns and slang.

Thanksgiving with Aunt Burty

Posted by: Frogmama, November 28, 2009 in 9:13 am

Frogs in my formulaIs there someone special you think of every Thanksgiving? Someone, perhaps, who knit you a warm, fuzzy hat with your initials or who baked you a blueberry pie even though blueberries weren’t in season? How nice.

Well, I’ve got someone I think of too.

Aunt Burty, God rest her wrinkled soul, was my second cousin’s twice removed aunt, or something like that. You know those fake eyes you hot glue to crafty projects? The eyes that don’t line up and have a mind of their own? Now put those eyes behind bottle glasses and add red lipstick and a newt. That was Burty.

My boys don’t eat green vegetables

Posted by: lorawentzel, November 28, 2009 in 12:10 am

My boys don’t eat green vegetables. I don’t even insist that they do. I feed them carrots and corn, and they eat almost every fruit I put in front of them. Vegetables aren’t worth the fight. I give them vitamins.  My boys don’t have to eat what we eat for dinner either. If they don’t like what I make, they can make themselves a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Again, it’s not worth the fight. I would rather fight about homework, and being nice to your little brother than eating fish because I wanted fish for dinner. I think its kind of wrong to tell someone they are supposed to eat what you think they should eat. Now, I am practical and don’t feed them candy 24/7, but sometimes, 2 PB&J’s and some apples are fine to take the place of pot roast.
