When I Was Rushing Around

Posted by: Christy, November 20, 2009 in 11:24 am

I was rushing around trying to get everyone together to take my oldest daughter (she was 6) to school.   I often had her help me out because she was the oldest, often forgetting that she was little herself!  I asked her if she would go get a blanket for the baby out of the dresser drawer not even thinking that the dresser wasn’t really stable and we hadn’t hooked it to the wall yet.  We had been meaning to get to that… She opened the drawer and the whole dresser tumbled over on top of her. I was scared to death but thank God she was okay. I still feel like such a horrible parent for allowing it to happen.  I try not to rush around so much in the morning now.  I rather my daughter be a little late too school then squashed under a piece of furniture!!

Break Out the Lists

Posted by: , November 20, 2009 in 11:19 am

It’s that time of year again.  The time to make lists.  Shopping lists, gift lists, card lists, menu planning lists and what to wear or pack lists.  Exhausting, no?

Nope.  I think it is exhilarating!  There is nothing more anticipatorythan breaking out a fresh sheet of paper and starting a new list.  Wait, there is something better! It’s crossing off all the items on the list and realizing you have actually completed a set of tasks.  Your objective for the day or holiday is complete and now you can sit back and relax and enjoy yourself.  As a parent of two small children and a list person this is the only way I get stuff done and can remember what exactly I was doing last.  Because I know it wasn’t cleaning up peanut butter off the floor. That was definitely not on the list.

There in lies the key to all this. The list isn’t to create more work or little list babies.  It’s the sharpening of a point.  The key to your organization and staying on track to get the job done.  It’s a tiny schedule without time lines designed to help you focus.    Now if you’ll excuse me my list says I have to make a packing list so that I can follow my original list of all that I need to get done today.   Like cleaning peanut butter covered in Cheerios off the floor.

From One Child to Two

Posted by: Sarah, November 19, 2009 in 12:20 pm

From One Child to TwoSo I have discovered item number 3,257,002 that people don’t talk about with regard to motherhood. This, my friends, in an article on having a second child, and the trials this second birth brings that no one talks about.

I just checked on my almost three-year-old son after tucking him in to bed about an hour and a half ago. I came downstairs to send out the invitations to his birthday party (Diego themed, of course) and I realized I had tears streaming down my face (again). I’m assuming that most of these tears can be blamed on hormones and the fact that I had our second baby a whopping twelve days ago. But in this moment, right now, I’m really sad.
