We all know that with new moms the first thing to go is not our stomach but our brain. Can’t remember how old that breastmilk is you have sitting in the fridge? Can’t quite figure out if you already fed the fish? Or maybe it’s the Chinese food leftovers that you’d love to snack on but forgot when they’re from. Well, there’s an amazing digital gadget, the Days Ago, which you can stick to a food container, baby food jar or your plants and it will keep track of how long you’ve had it. The Days Ago counts the days and hours for you so you and your baby won’t end up consuming something past its expiration date . The best part is the counters can be reset and used over and over again!
I have imperfect parenting moments all the time. I was at the grocery store with my 18 month old daughter trying to keep her occupied. As I filled up the cart I kept having to pick up her toy that she would throw on the ground. A fun little game for her but somewhat distracting for me since I was trying to remember everything I needed. I was in the dairy section and had just put a carton of eggs in the cart. I went over to get something else that I needed and turned to see that my daughter had opened the egg cart and was throwing eggs all over the floor! Aaaggghhhh….

I stared at the registry in vain. Seriously? The only items left were a 96 count diaper pack and a waterproof crib pad – two very uninspired choices for a close friend of 21 years. I decided to go off-registry. Always a risky venture, but I’m glad I did it. I wanted something practical and useful but also fun and unique. A friend of mine had unrolled a beautiful baby-mat in one of our classes. It looked softer and more padded than the traditional baby mats I’d seen and it had lovely fabric with a stunning pattern. I inquired about her mat and it led me to Meg Elliot at Buppity Baby.
I did a ‘week of silence’ last week. Meaning for one whole week i turned myself off from Twitter, Facebook, going to blogging events and generally doing the whole social media frenzy that I do each and every day. It’s exhausting, I swear. All that tweeting, typing and interfacing keeps one busy.

I’ve been scooped!!! TIME magazine’s August cover story “Why Exercise Won’t Make You Thin,” is exactly what I have been saying for 33 years! Yes, way back in 1976 when the aerobics-go-for-the-burn craze was starting, I was skeptical. So I tried running. I felt everything drop: my face; my uterus; and my arches! But apparently, other females didn’t agree since running morphed into killer aerobic classes and millions of females starting jumping up and down urged on by Jane Fonda’s workout tapes. (Years later she apologized for the injuries people sustained.)

A car seat is something that parents know is always necessary, but they hope it never needs to perform its ultimate duty – to restrain and protect a child in a crash. One Wisconsin mother unwillingly put her Britax Roundabout to a heart stopping test when her minivan was trapped in front of an oncoming train. The father, following in a separate car, and a nearby police officer rushed to save the mother and the child. The mother escaped, but the men were unable to free the child before the train hit. Amazingly, though the van was badly damaged in the head-on collision, the child and the car seat emerged unharmed.
