Whenever we are in a situation with other children, my 4 year old daughter clings to me desperately. She has no interest in socializing at all and will rarely go up to other children on her own, even if she knows them. I’ve tried everything but that’s just her way. People have said the most obnoxious stuff to me. Last week a woman in the waiting room at the doctor’s office said, “She probably needs more attention at home. Do you work?” (I don’t) or a parent at Tumble Time said, “You need to teach her how to be independent.” No kidding! Can’t people just mind their own business? I’m doing the best I can!

I have been learning a whole lot about both myself and parenting in the past four months since my second child’s birth. Some of the things I have realized have really helped me get through the challenges, especially with the difficult age my 2.5 year old is currently going through.
So, I have a new parenting theory. I am sure I am not the first person to discover this, but it feels brand new and illuminating to me!
The abstract: Kids are crazy.

“It is Christmas in the heart that puts Christmas in the air.” – W.T. Ellis
“Cook a Glazed Ham on Christmas for a friend and you will never again, walk life’s path alone. You also get to eat the ham.” – Out-Numbered
Growing up, most of my close friends were Christians. When I was a kid, that simply meant that I celebrated Hanukkah and they celebrated Christmas. It was pretty simple. As a young child, I clearly remember being jealous of my friends come Christmas time.

The cute Cheshire grin is still there. She still wants me when she’s hurt or tired for a quick cuddle too. However, the independent streak has already begun. Just over a year, my youngest, my baby is now beginning to assert herself and sparks of personality are beginning to shine through.
She no longer eats whatever we feed her. She’s not content to just be plopped on the floor and play with whatever her older sister has discarded. Nope. She’s her own person now. One who toddles about the house at a faster and faster speed each week. She prefers her yellow blanket over any other and hates cottage cheese. She wants to join in the fun most days but sometimes adamantly declares the need to be alone. Today she slammed a door in my face. She’s not even twelve yet for goodness sake.
She loves music and will dance to any beat she hears. She is full of smiles and laughs easily. At thirteen months she no longer follows her sister wherever she goes or me for that matter. Little Miss Independence has proclaimed herself.

Of course the mother is going to sue after a school secretary duct taped her 6-year old’s mouth and hands (and the smart move would be for the school to settle before it goes to the jury).
Perhaps letting your first grader carry a shotgun shell around in his pocket, let alone into school, is not the best decision one oould make when it comes to live ammunition.

I was at the shopping mall with my mother-in-law, sister-in-law and 14-month old daughter. Not the most understanding group so I was hoping my daugher would be one good behavior. I was wrong. Everything was going smoothly until my daughter decided that she was done shopping and entered into one of her notorious public tantrums. I tried everything in my arsenal to calm her but her screams were not subsiding. There was nothing to do but leave the store. I told them I would catch up and I took her outside where she

My morning started by waking up to a funny smell and a “pleasant” discovery of dog diarrhea dragged all over my house by a crazy and senile Cocker Spaniel’s paws. Beating the clock, half naked and blind without contacts, I proceeded to step in some of it and then had to neurotically clean everything in sight. Just before I contemplated setting my house on fire, my daughter woke up in the mood to match the diarrhea in the plastic, tied up bag. She also felt the need to announce it to the entire block with screams that can only be described as “heart wrenching”. Dishes, breakfast, finding matching socks, 35 teary “Goodbyes” at the door, husband with the “burning eyes and throat”…and I am off to work.
