When I was a kid we played with trucks. We rode big wheels around the neighborhood pretending to be Ponch and Jon. We collected comics, Micronauts and Star Wars Cards. The toys back then had heart, substance and encouraged children to be creative.
WE INVENTED PONG GOD DAMMIT!!! Back then, less was more.

What’s a girl to do after her school confiscates and searches her cell phone before handing it over to the district attorney’s office to prosecute her for taking nude photos of herself? Take ‘em to court and sue their pants off!

At the playground a group of moms were all huddled around the sandbox as our 6-12 month old children played. I had never met them before even though I’m at the playground every day. Apparently they don’t have time for playing in the playground- such a frivolous activity – since they are too buys taking their babies to various classes and structured activities. As they talked of their music, gym and baby yoga classes, I tried not to laugh at the intensity of it all. Since when is playing outside with other children not enough stimulation?

Everybody seems to be talking about being bilingual these days. The world is changing – it’s cliché but true. Foreign trade is skyrocketing and the Internet knows no borders. Even in other areas, like the Vancouver Olympics, coaches, officials and athletes from different countries had to communicate in tons of different languages. It’s not surprising then that parents are rushing out to teach foreign languages to their children, as young as 3 years old.

I was trying to get my two kids into a movie theater, and realized that my daughter who had just turned 3 years old would be charged. So I told her to say that she was 2 years old. Every dollar counts you know and it was just a few days difference. This really caused an issue for my very proud daughter and a terrible embarrassment for me as we walked away from the box office with her screaming “I am not two. I am three. I am a big girl now!” Ugh. I will never ask my child to lie again…it was not worth the money saved… lesson learned!
