Kicking the Pacifier Habit

Sometimes the pacifier habit will phase out on its own.   But sometimes your kid is entering Kindergarten and people are giving you looks (no judgments here).  It’s time to bring in the big guns.  Getting your child to give up the pacifier without major drama can be quite a challenge.   Here are ten tips, which might make it easier.

My French Nanny

Posted by: , October 15, 2009 in 8:37 am

My French NannySo, I hired the French nanny. I know I said I wasn’t going to for the sake of being the queen of my domain or something but my kid likes her, mama needs to work, and…I can’t remember my last excuse. I did get my hair done and have been paying close attention to my wardrobe to make myself feel better about the decision. I’ve decided she is not a real threat. Vegans don’t steal husbands and anyway, she’s totally sweet. Part of me thinks she might be an angel. An angel would never eat meat or consume dairy products so my theory makes sense.

Grandma Cut Her Hair!

Posted by: Victoria Mason, September 29, 2009 in 5:06 pm

We call her The Lioness.  My daughter. Not my mother.  Her blond hair is so wildly curly it often defies gravity even on a good day.  It’s like a white girl fro.  Most days I have to apply conditioner and detangler to get a comb through her waves and curls.  However, I have figured out how to manage it.  I figure it took so long for my bald-until-two baby to grow those locks. It’s my job to take good care of it.

Stop Calling it a Job!

Posted by: Cory Kahaney, August 30, 2009 in 11:08 pm

Stop Calling it a Job!It’s annoying when they refer to motherhood as a job. I am not saying being a mom isn’t a lot of work, it is, everyone knows that but it’s not a job. I have had jobs.

I am offended when Oprah looks into the camera at us and says “well I always say being a mom is the hardest job in the world”, like she knows. Hi I am Oprah today I am giving advice on motherhood and marriage even though I have virtually no experience at either, next up how to live more frugally. Just once I’d like to see an appropriate Oprah topic, tune in tomorrow when we’ll show you how to throw a fabulous Yacht Christening.

Posted by: Lisa Richardson, July 25, 2009 in 10:55 am

Working Parents: More Engaged With KidsAre working parents more engaged with their children than their stay-at home counterparts? No!  Of course not! Your parenting conscience shouts that at you when you read that sentence. Most of us believe that it is better for a child to have a stay-at-home parent and that will lead to a more effectively raised child.

But what if that’s not true? What if in many cases a child is better off with more engaged working parents than with a stay-at-home parent? Let’s examine that.

Au Pair Childcare

Are you in need of live-in childcare? Or, are you a parent in need of a nanny with flexible hours?  If so, you may want to consider an au pair for your childcare. Yes, au pair. (Yep, that is how you spell it.)

So, what is an au pair?

Au pairs are generally foreign-born women between the ages of 18 and 26 that come to the States to experience life as a US citizen. They come from countries around the world, mostly originating from countries like Brazil, Germany and Thailand. Sorry, they aren’t all Swedish like in the movies!
