Who said learning to read can’t be fun? For any child who is a reluctant reader or just embarking on the reading process, How Rocket Learned to Read, is a must-have book. The story revolves around Rocket, a puppy, who is not the least bit interested in reading until a little yellow bird proves how enjoyable it can be.

At some point before my daughter was born, I had read that watching TV before the age of two can be detrimental to a child’s development. It had something to do with being able to tell the difference between 2D and 3D images…or something to that effect. So, being optimistically irrational (or is it irrationally optimistic?) new parents, we vowed to keep TV from our daughter’s eyes until she was two.

“Junior, this is Gossie. This is Gert—”
“—Is that Gertie? Where’s his body?”
“—It’s drawn off the page.”
“Why?”
“I don’t know, sweetie. Artistic license. Gossie wears bright red boots. Gertie wears—”

Let it be known that I am a die-hard original fan of the SATC series. In fact, I watched the first episode right when it came out. Did I have any idea that I was on the cusp of a pop culture phenomenon? No, I only knew that it was love at first sight. The show was fresh, the writing not just witty but thought provoking and it appealed to my early twenties self as I embarked on my own with a set of girlfriends in a new city.

Call things by their right names – Glass of brandy and water! That is the current, but not the appropriate name; ask for a glass of liquid fire and distilled damnation. -Robert Hall
Would you change history if you knew something bad was going to happen?
Would you interfere with destiny?
How far would you go in order to prevent disaster?

I’ve been playing video games for as long as I can remember. It started one fateful evening when my family went out to dinner and there was this new machine at the restaurant, and it wasn’t a pinball machine. It had two long blocks and the goal was to knock the smaller block past the other player’s larger block. Yes, it was 1972 and the game was PONG, I was mesmerized at the time like a teenager watching Charlie’s Angels, and soon the video game industry was born.

I first became acquainted with this awesome line of books when my best friend sent my daughter one for her first birthday. It has been my go-to gift ever since. I am a total sucker for personalized gifts – be they placemats, lunch boxes, or in this case, storybooks.

Dear Mr. Daughtry,
I’m writing to you in this eleventh hour out of desperation. I would like to call a matter of great importance to your attention. My name is Jason and I am a fan of your music. Furthermore, I am a huge Heavy Metal fan. Although technically, I wouldn’t consider your works to be of that genre, I am borrowing, if not counting on your Hard Rock prowess for a particular reason.

I don’t have a ton of accessible memories of when I was a young child. One of the fondest memories I can recall, is of me, my little brother and my mom, taking a trip to see the Ringling Brothers Circus at Nassau Coliseum on Long Island. My Mother was a single parent and we didn’t have a lot of money but I can assure you that the money was well spent; her return on investment cashed out in smiles. In those days, I would imagine that smiles were worth a lot more to her, than the price of admission.

Pacify Me is a hilarious book that sometimes made me pee in my diaper…I mean pants. Becoming a first time father makes most men a tad nervous. Chris Mancini, a real, down to earth – not to mention hysterically funny comedian and dad, tells it like it is! And, he tells it in a lighthearted, relaxed, REAL voice that made me tear through the book smiling and relating. And honestly, it helped me chill the f out a little (which I totally needed, by the way).
