At some point before my daughter was born, I had read that watching TV before the age of two can be detrimental to a child’s development. It had something to do with being able to tell the difference between 2D and 3D images…or something to that effect. So, being optimistically irrational (or is it irrationally optimistic?) new parents, we vowed to keep TV from our daughter’s eyes until she was two.
I’m writing to you in this eleventh hour out of desperation. I would like to call a matter of great importance to your attention. My name is Jason and I am a fan of your music. Furthermore, I am a huge Heavy Metal fan. Although technically, I wouldn’t consider your works to be of that genre, I am borrowing, if not counting on your Hard Rock prowess for a particular reason.
B.Y.O.K.(tm) (Bring Your Own Kid): Family friendly music has progressed way beyond sing-alongs and clapping-the new generation of performers is out to rock your wee ones silly and keep you entertained in the process. The 92YTribeca is offering a different tushy-kicking performance every Sunday at 11am through May!

For her 5th birthday, I bought her a microphone and an amplifier. She uses it all the time. We have guitars in the house, a piano, keyboards and all sorts of musical influences, that serve as a constant source of inspiration and encouragement.
The only thing that’s been slightly disappointing for me, from a selfish standpoint, is that our tastes in music seem to differ quite a lot.

The other day I was shuffling through selections on my daughters new CD trying to find the song she wanted to hear. “No–uller one!” she kept saying. Why am I doing this? I never ordered my parents to find the proper song to go along with my mood. I never ordered my parents to do anything. I was afraid to speak to my dad until I was twelve, and even then it was only to ask for a “point of clarification” for something he ordered me to do.

After two years of filming elaborate dance numbers, miniature candy-carnivals, tap-dancing robots and poolside chickens, New York’s underground rock band for kids, The Jimmies, whose sound New York Magazine describes as “bubble-gum-meets-indie,” unveiled their much-anticipated Trying Funny Stuff DVD this week exclusively at Barnes & Noble stores.

Did you mistakenly believe that the Baby Einstein videos would make your baby smarter? No need to answer the question. Disney is assuming that you did and is now offering REFUNDS! If you’ve purchased a Baby Einstein DVD any time in the last five years, you’re entitled to a full refund. Yup, you can thank the Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood which put pressure on Disney to stop claiming the Baby Einstein Videos were educational for infants.
Go to Disney’s Baby Einstein Website to find out how to get your money back, or trade in for a book or CD of your choice. We have no bone to pick with the Baby Einstein videos as entertainment, our kids loved them, but don’t love the deceptive advertising. It’s nice that they’re making up for it.
I am a big fan of the band The Killers. When I listen to their new album, it makes me hyper and feel more alive — like world is mine to take on. They were in New York about a month ago, and I wanted to go so badly. It was on a Tuesday at the Jones Beach Theater, about an hour east of NYC on the Atlantic Ocean.
