The top baby names 2009 were announced last week by the Social Security Administration, and the big news is that Isabella unseated Emma as the top girls’ name. Jacob remains for its 11th year atop the boys’ list.

This year was notable by a swell of great celebrity baby names, far outweighing the quirky, strange, and downright bad. What were the very best? According to a Nameberry poll of nearly 700 people, the winners are:
SERAPHINA ROSE ELIZABETH, name of the second daughter of Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck, for girls.
And for boys, JASPER WARREN, second son of Kimberly Williams-Paisley and Brad Paisley.

Apparently, Shakespeare would not understand the current “baby naming” obsession. Today name selection is seen as an important part of a child’s life, even perhaps shaping their future.
And so, a once simple element swirling around the universe of giving birth, is now a complex and anxious process for new parents, as they are presented with a diverse array of choices and must face the fall-out from a bad decision.
