Left at Mickey D’s
When my middle son was 12 and the youngest son at the time was 4, we went on a trip to my sisters new lake house in Indiana. It was a 12hr drive and during that time I had to really make a pit stop. I pulled into a McDonalds (boys were asleep in the van) locked the doors and ran in real quick. I then came back out unlocked the door got in and started driving. About 15 min. later I asked my 12yr old to hand me the map, then I commented on the beautiful mountains, when I recieved no answer from either boy I glanced back and relized there was no one else in the van. I did the fastest u-turn in history cussing all the time, trying to remember what exit I had taken. All I kept saying to myself was , call the cops or 911 just don’t call your dad!! When I barreled back into the parking lot the boys were calmly playing on the playground and watching for me. They had gotten out to go to the restroom also and I hadn’t realized it. When they came out, the youngest asked where the van was, Nate said mom will be right back, let’s play. I was so proud of him for keeping his head and so mad at them for leaving the van. After that we had voice and body checks before I even started the car! My sister thought is was so funny, especially the part about not calling my husband. That is only one of sooo many bad mommy moments with 5 kids and 29 years of parenting!

When I was 6 my dad owned a pet store. everday our bus would drop us off there and we would play in a tree outback until it was time to go home. my mom still tells a story about how once my dad got home and she asked “where are the girls” to which my dad replied “oh sh**” and ran back to the car. he had forgotten us at the store!
Oh my, I don’t think I would have kept my cool in any sense. My husband’s mom left him in the car in kindergarten. He played with the shift/stick thing, making the car go in reverse and it stopped when it hit the neighbors house! The best part (he was fine) was the reason he was left alone in the car. She had forgotten the other child in her house!!!! Oh boy, what will I do as a mom…
