Now I can Die Peacefully
This is my first blog attempt, posted out of necessity as my other time-wasting activities have been rescued away from my n’er-do-well hands. (another story for another day).
My story is this, I saved my son’s life from and Oscar Mayer Wiener. As such, in my mind, I figure that I can now die Peacefully. My son was about 6 yo at the time, he was eating hot dogs sans bun at our dining room table. I was otherwise busy and figured he would be safe to consume the unhealthiest but most holy of meats given to us by God. Then After no longer being able to ignore him, other duties complete. I had to check on him as he is a slower than dirt eater. I joined him at the oak slab, and was shocked by what I saw. He looked to be deathly afraid and was not really making sounds or movements. He was pointing to his throat.
Such mental horror propelled me into action using a gear that I didn’t know existed in parents or any non-Olympic sprinter. He looked to be in pain. If If he was 2 years-old I would have guessed he was trying dropping a deuce, but alas, at 6yo he had conquered that demon long ago. I swear I could witness the next events outside my own body. I quickly wrapped my arms around him from behind, located his sternum, went to finger-widths down, made a fist w/ my right hand and clasped it w/ my left. I made a couple quick and upward heaves and Bam; spit and bile excised his life taker.
On the second thrust, he yelled “Ouch!, ok, you got it… “ Oscar Mayer tried his damdest, but his efforts literally stared up at us from the floor. My son was safe, and I had comfort knowing I could continue offering his gifts to the world.
Since that day, going forward, I have realized that should I die anytime soon, I will know that I have given him the best a chance to grow, second only to his conception .
He still eats hot dogs, but maybe a little more slowly. His younger brother, now 5 yo, won’t touch the lovely meat buy-product known as a wiener, yet will present other issues inducing me to save his life, hopefully indirectly.
I am peaceful today, because I saved his life. I just returned the favor as he and his brothers have done is save my life every other day since their birth…
